The Meaning of Witchcraft by Gerald Gardner

Published by Mandrake Press

Setting the scene for the growth of Wicca, this book examines beliefs about witches and the development of witchcraft, through the ages. Although some of Gardner’s conclusions may be disputed in light of recent research, this work was a landmark in producing a mindset that allowed people to be proud of their beliefs and practices as witches. If you are serious about Wicca you cannot ignore this book, not least for the insights it provides into the perceptions of its founding father, and the material he had to work with. As with the rest of Gerald Gardner’s books, it should be read to gain a clearer perspective of where Wicca has come from.
