A Goddess Arrives by Gerald Gardner

Published by Mandrake Press

Probably the least well-known of Gerald Gardner’s books, this novel is another historically set story. The book is told within the context of a dream by one of the main characters, Robert Denvers. Set in 1450 BCE on Cyprus, it tells the tale of the invasion by the Egyptians. The book is also a tale of reincarnation, for the main protagonists are also the hero, his lover, and the villain who seeks to steal her away. These modern characters only appear at the beginning and end of the book, and within is the setting for a praise of goddess worship. I won’t reveal the plot, but is a highly enjoyable read, and hints at the more developed mythical fiction of subsequent writers like Marion Zimmer Bradley. Enjoy.
